Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023: Team Spirit, Xtreme Gaming, and Shopify Rebellion Eliminated

The Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023 Playoffs have reached the first round of the lower bracket, and it has already witnessed some major upsets as big names have been knocked out of the competition. The defending champions, Team Spirit, China's Xtreme Gaming, and the North American powerhouse Shopify Rebellion, have been eliminated from the tournament. Meanwhile, Team Aster, Team Liquid, and Evil Geniuses (EG) have made it to the second round of the lower bracket.

Team Aster 2-0 Team Spirit

The day began with China's Team Aster taking on TI10 champions Team Spirit. Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, who is playing as a stand-in for Aster, put on an exceptional performance in both games. He scored a clean 17 kills and 17 assists on Windranger in the first game, leading Aster to a 42-11, 37-minute win. SumaiL and Du "Monet" Peng then combined for 24 kills and 37 assists in game two to secure a 2-0 series sweep in 44 minutes, knocking Team Spirit out of the Major.

Team Liquid 2-1 Xtreme Gaming

In the second series of the day, Team Liquid faced Xtreme Gaming, the second of three Chinese teams in the lower bracket. Despite a shaky start, Liquid emerged victorious in three games, slowly regaining their once-dominant form. Xtreme Gaming won the first game in a 53-minute slugfest, but Liquid dominated in the second game with a 28-4 kill lead in just 26 minutes. Liquid then ousted their Chinese opponents from the Major after a 28-11, 41-minute rout.

Evil Geniuses 2-0 Shopify Rebellion

The third and the last series of the day was played between  North America's Shopify Rebellion and South America's Evil Geniuses. EG got their revenge on Shopify Rebellion, who had knocked them out in front of their home crowd during the lower bracket quarterfinals of the Lima Major. EG swept Shopify Rebellion in just 56 minutes of game time, with the most one-sided match of the Berlin Major so far. EG racked up 28 kills while only conceding three deaths in 29 minutes in the first game. Christian "Pakazs" Savina then put on a show on Alchemist in the second game, finishing with a clean 10 kills and 26,800 gold in net worth as EG ended Shopify Rebellion's time in Berlin after a 27-minute showdown.

On the third day of the Playoffs, Team Aster and Team Liquid will compete against each other. On the other hand, Evil Geniuses will be up against the winner of the previous lower bracket round 1 game, which will be between China’s PSG.LGD and Southeast Asia’s Talon Esports.

As the Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023 advances, the competition is becoming more fierce, and the stakes are increasing. All teams in the competition will have to bring their best to have a chance at winning the Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023.
